Jedlinka Palace

In 1944 the construction of the Riese complex in the Owl Mountains was run from this white palace in Jedlina-Zdrój: it housed the Organisation Todt's construction headquarters, and the building itself bore the code name "Villa Erika". Today Jedlinka Palace is a foundation-run museum with a hotel, a brewery and exhibitions that link the story of the Silesian aristocracy with the darker chapters of the Second World War. Visits are guided, with tours every hour.

History: from Tannhausen to "Villa Erika"

The first records of Jedlinka, formerly Tannhausen, date from the 13th century, when it belonged to Bolko I the Strict, Duke of Świdnica-Jawor. A Baroque manor was built here in the early 17th century and remodelled in the second half of the 19th century – the present neoclassical form dates from that time. Over the centuries the palace changed hands many times; its owners included the von Pückler, von Klitzing, von Maltzan and Boehm families. The last private owner before the war was Gustaw Boehm.

In 1943 the Nazi welfare organisation NSV bought the palace from the Böhm family, planning to turn it into a hospital. Early in 1944, however, the military took it over and adapted it as the headquarters of Schlesische Industriegemeinschaft AG, the company responsible for Project Riese; an air-raid shelter with armoured, gas-proof doors was built in the cellar. In April 1944 the company was replaced by the Organisation Todt, which set up the Oberbauleitung Riese construction office and directed the works in the Owl Mountains from the palace.

After the war and today

After 1945 the palace was handed to a state farm and used, among other things, to store hay. In 2004 Felix Investments bought the complex, and the palace and neighbouring buildings were restored. The Jedlinka Palace Foundation, set up in 2013, continues the renovation and runs the palace as a museum, and since 2014 the Jedlinka Brewery has operated in one of the former estate buildings. More rooms and the historic park are being opened step by step.

• Palace interiors on a guided tour, including the ballroom used for exhibitions and concerts.
• Heraldic Chamber – in 2013 it displayed a collection of Almanach de Gotha volumes, practically complete from the mid-19th century.
• Replica of the "Amerika" carriage and the WWII trail – a separate route on the palace's wartime history and Project Riese.
• Palace park with a fountain in front of the residence.

The palace opens seasonally: October to March on Saturdays and Sundays (tours at 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00), April to June Friday to Sunday 11:00–17:00, and July to September Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–18:00, with tours every hour and the last at 16:00 (as of October 2026). A palace ticket costs PLN 40 (reduced PLN 35), "Amerika" with the WWII trail PLN 20 (PLN 15), and a combined ticket PLN 50 (PLN 45). Groups of more than 15 can visit all year by appointment. Allow 2 hours for the palace and the carriage; Jedlinka is 11 km from Grodno Castle, 12 km from Osówka (Riese) and 19 km from Książ Castle.
