Skansen Parowozownia Kościerzyna

The Railway Museum in Kościerzyna is a branch of the Kościerzyna Land Museum at 7 Towarowa Street. It operates on the site of a former engine shed and presents the history of railways in Kashubia through historic locomotives, carriages, technical equipment and educational displays.

From engine shed to museum

The first train reached Kościerzyna in 1885, and a fan-shaped engine shed was probably built around the same time. The expanding railway network strengthened the local junction’s importance. In 1992, the Parowozownia Kościerzyna open-air museum was established. Since 2009, the institution has operated as the Railway Museum within the Kościerzyna Land Museum.

What to see

The main collection consists of steam locomotives and other rail vehicles. Highlights include the SP47-001 diesel locomotive, one of the early carriages used on the Gubałówka railway from 1938 and a Tw1 series steam locomotive. Historic railway infrastructure and the engine-shed hall are also open to visitors. Steam-route or handcar rides are organised on selected weekends and holidays, and the miniature railway “Romek” runs seasonally.

Address: 7 Towarowa Street, 83-400 Kościerzyna. from March to October the museum is open Monday 10:00–16:00 and Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–18:00; from November to February, Monday 10:00–16:00 and Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–16:00. On Mondays, the engine-shed hall and permanent exhibitions are closed, with no rides or guided tours. Tickets cost PLN 20 regular and PLN 15 reduced; ticket sales end 30 minutes before closing.
