Kozia Zagroda Homestead in Brenna

In the centre of Brenna, behind the Brennica river opposite the local church, stands Kozia Zagroda — a reconstructed Wallachian homestead modelled on the farmsteads that once stood in this part of Cieszyn Silesia. The complex at 3 Sportowa Street comprises a cottage that now serves as an inn serving highland cuisine, a pen yard with live animals, and farm buildings.

The Vlachs in the Carpathians

The name recalls the Vlachs — nomadic shepherds who came from Wallachia, today's Romania, and lived mainly from sheep grazing. It was they who spread the shepherd's craft across the Carpathian region, and their trace survives in local names and customs. The homestead presents the everyday life of shepherds — from tending the flock to making cheese and working wool.

Workshops and regional flavours

The homestead operates all year round; the biggest draws are the bread-baking and cheese-making workshops, demonstrations of baking flatcakes on a griddle and bonfires with roast lamb. The hosts also organise regional events for groups, which has made the place a favourite destination for school trips and family outings. The inn welcomes guests on Fridays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 19:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 to 18:00; from Monday to Thursday it remains closed.

Practicalities

The homestead is a few minutes' walk from the Tourism Park in Brenna, which makes it a natural stop on a family trip in the Silesian Beskids. It is worth combining your visit with a walk along the Brennica.
