St. Catherine's Church in Wolbrom

Wolbrom, a small town between Olkusz and Zawiercie, has St. Catherine's church by its market square — a white, Baroque temple from the 17th century entered through ornate doors from the square side. Next to it rises an equally white, tall belfry, forming with the church a coherent, bright ensemble.

From the 15th century

The first temple stood here as early as the 15th century. The church owes its present shape to the Baroque rebuilding of the 17th century, which gave it today's body and character. It is the second of Wolbrom's churches — beside it stands a wooden Marian church, so the town has two places of prayer right by the square.

Turbas and red marble

The interior holds valuable altars by Piotr Turbas and a carved baptismal font of red marble from the 17th century. Baroque details and white plaster make the interior bright and clear, and the main entrance from the market square is adorned with decorative doors.

A base for the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland

The church stands at Krzywa street 2, right by the market square — sightseeing pairs well with a walk around the town. Wolbrom is also a good base for exploring the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland: 8.4 km to the castle in Smoleń, 15.3 km to Rabsztyn, 15.8 km to Pieskowa Skała and 17 km to the Błędów Desert.
