Caves in the Klucze Municipality

The caves of the Klucze municipality lie in the Lesser Poland part of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, among limestone hills, forests and the Błędów Desert. The municipality lists Błotna, Lodowa, Pod Porzeczką and Na Świniuszce among its karst features. This is a group of speleological sites, not one operated attraction with a ticket office and lit route.

What defines the area

Jurassic limestone creates fissures, rock shelters and caves ranging from horizontal passages to shafts that require caving techniques. Some names and measurements come from geological inventories, so they should not be read as a promise of easy access. The region’s appeal lies in the combination of geology, forest scenery and the nearby desert landscape.

Access and safety

The caves have no common operator or fixed opening hours. Some entrances are difficult, protected or located on private land. The entrance to Mąciwody Cave is described on a private plot, so the owner’s permission is required. Never enter vertical sites without experience, helmet, lighting, a competent partner and suitable protection. Do not bypass gates, fences or restrictions.

Planning a trip

For most visitors, official trails, nature reserves and Błędów Desert viewpoints are a better outing, with the caves serving as a geological theme. Check current signs, land ownership and conservation rules before setting out. Do not disturb sediment, remove rocks or disturb bats.
