Church of Our Lady of Ostra Brama in Antonin

The Church of Our Lady of Ostra Brama in Antonin is a Romanesque Revival burial chapel of the Radziwiłł family, built in 1835–1838 opposite their hunting palace. The small brick church, with its octagonal tower, forms an important part of the palace and park complex. It is worth adding to a trip focused on the Radziwiłłs, Chopin and the Barycz Valley landscape.

The Radziwiłł burial chapel

The design is attributed to Johann Häberlin. Four marble columns, arches with Byzantine-inspired decoration and a bust of Eliza Radziwiłłówna distinguish the interior. From the beginning the building served as a mausoleum, and members of the founding family rest in the crypt.

Antonin and its surroundings

The chapel stands beside the Radziwiłł hunting palace, associated with visits by Fryderyk Chopin. Nearby are the park, Wydymacz nature reserve and Lake Szperek. The church is also an interesting example of 19th-century residential architecture in which the religious function was tied to family memory.

Practical information

The exterior can be viewed year-round, but there is no confirmed fixed schedule for the interior; access may depend on services or prior arrangements. Allow 45–60 minutes for the chapel, palace and a short park walk. The visit combines well with Wydymacz reserve and cycling routes in the Barycz Valley.
