Waniewo–Śliwno Footbridge

The Waniewo–Śliwno Footbridge is a wooden nature trail through the marshy Narew valley in Narew National Park. The route is about 1.2 km long and connects the areas around Waniewo and Śliwno, crossing wetlands, reedbeds and river channels. Its signature feature is a set of floating platforms pulled across by rope when kayaks need to pass.

A walk through the Narew valley

The footbridge lets you reach the park’s “heart” without a boat or kayak. Along the route there are interpretation boards, rest areas, two birdwatching platforms and a viewing tower in the valley. Waterfowl, cranes, geese, ducks and wetland plants are the main sights. The return follows the same route, so plan for a walk there and back.

Access and seasonal conditions

Conditions depend on water levels, weather and the state of the platforms. When the Narew is low, the floating crossings may be closed; the park can also close the trail in winter or during works. From Waniewo, the approach to the first platform may cross a wet meadow; from Śliwno, the approach can be gravelly and uneven.

Practical information

Check the latest notice from Narew National Park before travelling. Wear sturdy outdoor shoes, protect yourself from the sun and stay on the footbridge. A car park is available on the Waniewo side; part of the approach and one section are accessible to people with reduced mobility, while the floating section is more difficult. Do not feed birds and keep quiet near observation points.
