Mountains & peaks
The Mieczysław Orłowicz Main Sudeten Trail is a long-distance hiking route marked in red, running from Świeradów-Zdrój to Prudnik. It is approximately 430–440 km long, depending on the measurement used, and links the main ranges of the Sudetes.
The route passes through the Izera Mountains, Karkonosze, Rudawy Janowickie, Stone Mountains, Owl Mountains, Table Mountains, the Śnieżnik Massif and the Opawskie Mountains. Notable places include Stóg Izerski, the areas around Szklarska Poręba and Karpacz, Wielka Sowa, Srebrna Góra, the Errant Rocks, the spa towns of the Kłodzko Valley, Złoty Stok, Głuchołazy and Biskupia Kopa. The trail also passes through towns where you can rest, resupply and arrange accommodation.
You can complete the Main Sudeten Trail as one long expedition or split it into shorter sections. It is physically demanding: cumulative climbs, changing surfaces and different conditions across the ranges require preparation. Before setting out, check the current route, weather, national-park notices and shelter availability; an offline map and enough water are useful. Do not assume every shelter or shop will be open.
The trail itself is free to hike, but selected sections may be subject to entrance fees or rules set by national parks and other sites. Świeradów-Zdrój and Prudnik are practical start and finish towns, and the route can be walked in either direction. Check current PTTK maps, badge sections and marking information before beginning the hike.
