Dwarf Boulders in Gorzeszów

The Głazy Krasnoludków Nature Reserve, also called the Gorzeszów Rocks, lies about 2 km south-west of Gorzeszów in Kamienna Góra municipality. It protects unusual sandstone weathering forms: a chain of rocks about 1,200 metres long hidden on a wooded slope of the Zawory range in the north-western Table Mountains. Their name refers to the fanciful shapes resembling columns, mushrooms, clubs and fairy-tale figures.

What to see

The tallest rocks reach about 17 metres. Erosion carved waists, ledges and rock platforms that are best viewed up close on a short forest walk. The reserve covers about 9.04 hectares and was established in 1970 to protect the rock formations and geological values. Protected plants, including stemless carline thistle and lily of the valley, also grow nearby.

Walk and access

Marked trails reach the reserve: the yellow trail from Chełmsko Śląskie towards Krzeszów and a red connector from Gorzeszów. From the village, a shorter road also leads to a car park and a clearing with shelters, benches and a fire-pit. It is a useful family stop, but the forest paths and approaches to the rocks are not suitable for a city stroller.

Practical information

This is a free outdoor reserve without a ticket office or fixed visiting hours. Follow reserve rules and signs, do not climb the formations or leave marked approaches, and take care after rain. Wear stable shoes for a longer walk. The Cistercian Abbey in Krzeszów and Chełmsko Śląskie make good additions to the same outing.
