Dworzec Kultury and the Model Railway in Tarnowskie Góry

Railway service reached Tarnowskie Góry in 1857. The neo-Renaissance station, designed by Robert Honsch, opened on 15 October 1888.

The two-storey, neo-Renaissance brick building on a stone plinth bears coats of arms in the rondels of its facade — those of Wrocław, Tarnowskie Góry and, formerly the Kingdom of Prussia, today Poland. In 1960 the interiors were rebuilt in the socialist-realist spirit, and after decades of changes the building gained new life: since December 2025 it houses Dworzec Kultury, a branch of the Museum in Tarnowskie Góry.

The model railway and gallery

Upstairs, in the former waiting room, runs the Gallery of Contemporary Art with a permanent mosaic by Jan Nowak. Next to it stands the main attraction: a model railway depicting the town and surroundings — the town hall, the station, the Ewa and Sylwester shafts of the Black Trout Adit, the Miners' Gate and the Town Park. The model combines four scales: N (1:160), H0e (1:87), H0 (1:87) and 1:32, and you can set some elements and trains in motion yourself, at the press of a button.

Practical information

Address: 1c Częstochowska St. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00; last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and entry to the exhibitions and model is free. The model starts every half-hour. Organised groups require advance booking. Afterwards, head back to the market square or towards the historic Silver Mine.
