St Roch’s Church in Zamarski

The wooden Church of St Roch in Zamarski, at 1 Cieszyńska Street, is a valuable example of sacred architecture in Cieszyn Silesia. The oldest part of the site is the wooden bell tower rebuilt around 1585 after an earlier church burned down. The present church was added to it in 1731 with funding from the village owner, Fryderyk Wilczek. It has horizontal log construction on a stone base, an east-facing layout and a shingle-covered gabled roof.

What to see

Focus first on the tower: its post construction, slightly sloping walls, covered arcades and tent-like roof show the difference between the old belfry and the later church. The building is linked to the Jesuits, who ran a mission station in Zamarski until 1773. It belongs to the Via Ducalis route and the Wooden Architecture Route of Silesia, making it a good stop on a heritage drive around Cieszyn and the Beskids.

Visiting in practice

This is an active parish church, not a museum with guaranteed sightseeing hours. I found no confirmed regular schedule for interior visits or fixed admission price. Treat it as a short, quiet exterior stop; plan to enter during a service or after arranging access with the parish. Check the parish website for the current mass timetable and contact details. Keep quiet, dress appropriately and do not photograph the interior without permission.
