Dolina Roztoki

Roztoka Valley is a mountain valley in the Białka Valley area of the High Tatras. Its character comes from the Roztoka stream, forested slopes, rocky walls and waterfalls, including the Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza cascades and Siklawa. It is an important route towards the Valley of the Five Polish Lakes and a rewarding high-mountain walk.

Location and landscape

Roztoka Valley branches off from the Białka Valley and leads into the Tatras. The trail passes through woodland before opening towards a rugged alpine landscape at higher elevations. Water is one of the defining features: the stream forms numerous cascades, while Siklawa lies higher up, connected with the outflow from the Valley of the Five Polish Lakes.

Trails and the mountain hut

From the car park at Palenica Białczańska, it takes about 40 minutes to reach the Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza cascades. From there, the green trail descends to the hut at Stara Roztoka in about 15 minutes. The same colour continues towards the Valley of the Five Polish Lakes; according to the hut’s information, the section from Wodogrzmoty takes about 2 hours 5 minutes. The Vincent Pol Mountain Hut stands at 1,031 m above sea level.

Practical tips

Roztoka Valley is part of the Tatra National Park trail network, so check current conditions and any closures before setting out. Weather changes quickly in the Tatras, and rocky sections can be slippery. This is not an urban walk: even a short section calls for proper hiking footwear and enough time.
