Former Church of Saint Nicholas

At the end of historic Rzepedź-Wieś, above the Rzepedka stream, stands the former Greek Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The present wooden church was built in 1824, while the first documented reference to a church in Rzepedź dates from 1526. It is a characteristic towerless Lemko church.

The Osławica type and interior

The three-part, east-facing building has a log structure, shingle-clad walls and a roof with three onion-topped turrets. Its defining feature is the lack of a tower over the narthex; a separate wooden bell tower stands beside it. The interior has 1896 polychromes by Josyp Bukowczyk, a 19th-century iconostasis, side altars and a choir gallery with paintings of the Rzepedź church and Przemyśl Cathedral.

Rzepedź-Wieś on the route

The church, stone wall, gate and cemetery remains form a historic complex. From the main road, follow the local road to Rzepedź-Wieś. Combine it with the wooden churches in Szczawne, Turzańsk and Komańcza on the Wooden Architecture Route.

Visiting and access

Approximate address: Rzepedź, 38-543 Komańcza. The monument is accessible from outside, but interior access requires advance contact. The Greek Catholic parish of Saint Nicholas lists +48 512 007 809; Sunday Divine Liturgy starts at 9:45, but this is not a fixed sightseeing schedule. Confirm access and photography rules before travelling. No confirmed ticket price is available. Keep quiet and dress respectfully during services.
