Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church in Bielsk Podlaski

Why visit

The Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God at 6A Jagiellońska Street is one of Bielsk Podlaski’s key historic monuments and the city’s oldest sacred monument. It is known as the Castle Church because of its earlier connection with the town’s hillfort. In 1562 it was moved from Castle Hill to its present site. Today it is a parish church and co-cathedral of the Warsaw–Bielsk diocese.

What to see inside

The main object of veneration is the Bielsk Icon of the Mother of God, regarded as miraculous and connected with the church’s tradition. Notice the wooden structure, iconostasis and Orthodox interior. This is an active place of worship, so visits must give way to services. Ask locally before photographing or entering restricted areas.

Tourist visits

Since August 2025, tourists may visit the church Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A guided visit can also be arranged in advance. This short tourist window matters more than the parish’s general service schedule, so do not plan solely around liturgy times. There is no fixed admission charge; remain quiet, silence your phone and dress respectfully.
