Biebrza National Park

Biebrza National Park is Poland's largest national park and one of Europe's most important wetland areas. Vast marshes, peatlands, floodplains and the winding Biebrza River create a landscape that rewards slow travel. It is ideal for birdwatching, hiking and kayaking.

What to see

The park is known for wetland birds such as aquatic warblers, ruffs, great snipe and cranes. Moose are another emblem of the Biebrza marshes. Osowiec Fortress is a useful starting point, with the park headquarters and tourist information nearby. A good itinerary can include the Tsar's Road, Grzędy, Upper Biebrza and trails with boardwalks, towers and hides.

Trails and activities

Start with a short educational trail before committing to a longer route. Popular areas include Czerwone Bagno, Długa Luka, Grobla Honczarowska and Góra Skobla, but access can change after heavy rain, fires, maintenance or conservation decisions. You can also explore the Biebrza by kayak or boat on sections opened by the park. Drive only on roads and to places designated by the park authority.

Tickets and planning

Entry to land and water trails is paid; tickets are available through the eParki system and at points listed by the park. Before travelling, check the current visitor notice, route closures, water levels and parking rules. Visit only from dawn to dusk and stay on marked routes. Half a day is enough for one short trail; birdwatching, kayaking or several viewpoints deserve a full day. Bring binoculars and waterproof footwear in spring and autumn, and insect repellent in summer.
