Białowieża National Park

Białowieża National Park protects the most valuable part of the Białowieża Forest, one of Europe's last large lowland forests with a natural character. It is Poland's oldest national park: you see dead wood, veteran trees and a forest following its own processes. The forest is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

What to see

The European bison is the park's symbol, but BPN offers much more. In Białowieża, visit the European Bison Show Reserve with its educational pavilion. In the historic Palace Park, the Natural History and Forest Museum offers a permanent exhibition, temporary displays and a viewing tower. The most natural part of the forest can be explored on the route to the Jagiełło Oak in the Protected Area Reserve, formerly known as the Strict Reserve.

Reserve access and tickets

The route through the Protected Area Reserve is accessible only with a BPN-licensed guide. The park does not provide guides, so book one through a tourist office from the official list before buying your ticket. Tickets for the park's facilities can be purchased online up to 7 days ahead. Check visitor notices and weather warnings: entering the reserve is forbidden during storms and high winds.

Planning your visit

Allow a full day in Białowieża. Current standard/reduced prices are PLN 20/12 for the Bison Show Reserve, PLN 8/4 for the Protected Area Reserve and PLN 16/10 for the museum; prices and hours may change seasonally. In summer, bring mosquito repellent and sturdy shoes. A wild bison encounter is never guaranteed, while the show reserve offers the reliable option.
