Papal Oaks Alley in Rudy

Papal Oaks Alley in Rudy lies in the historic park of the former Cistercian Palace-Monastery Complex on Cysterska Street. This small outdoor stop sits beside the centuries-old Cysters Oak; its trees commemorate popes and Church figures. The first oak was planted in 2005 on the initiative of Father Jan Roś.

What to see

The oaks are marked with boulders and memorial plaques. The alley includes trees dedicated to Benedict XVI, John Paul II, Pope Francis and Bishop Jan Wieczorek. See it together with the Cysters Oak and the historic park rather than as a large standalone attraction. Three versions of an educational dendrological trail also run through the surrounding park.

Why visit

It is a quiet stop for anyone interested in Rudy’s history, Cistercian heritage and the religious symbolism of commemorative trees. The palace park covers about 95 hectares and combines natural features with an English-style garden layout. The visit makes most sense as part of a longer walk taking in the basilica and the former Cistercian complex.

Practical information

The alley is outdoors and entry to the park is free. Allow about 15–20 minutes for the plaques, or longer for the park and educational trail. The abbey interiors have separate hours; for individual visitors, Stare Opactwo currently lists 12:00–17:00, so check before travelling. Parking is opposite the complex at Cysterska 4. Dogs are not allowed in the abbey exhibition areas.
