Blues Alley in Białystok

Blues Alley is a short outdoor trail in central Białystok, running along Legionowa Street near Market Square. Pavement plaques carry the names and nicknames of people important to blues history. Created in 2008, it made Białystok the first city in Poland to honour the blues in this form.

What to see

The walk follows a pedestrian route and takes around fifteen minutes. Look for plaques dedicated to musicians, journalists and people who promoted the genre. A Bluesman Bear figure sits on the alley’s piano-keyboard design; it is one of the city’s WidziMisie landmarks. The stop is small, but it reflects Białystok’s musical identity and local scene.

Why visit

Białystok hosts Poland’s oldest blues festival, “Jesień z Bluesem”, and the alley commemorates people connected with that tradition. Honoured names include Tadeusz Nalepa, Mira Kubasińska, Ryszard Riedel and Ada Rusowicz. Treat it as a music-themed stop during a city walk rather than a full-day attraction.

Practical information

The alley is public space, free to visit and has no ticket office or fixed visiting hours. It is easiest to reach from Market Square; allow about 10–15 minutes to see the plaques. Combine it with central Białystok, Branicki Palace or a café along the pedestrian route. Check the Białystok Culture Centre calendar before planning a music event.
