About this place
From the top station of the chairlift in Witów you get a full view of Giewont, the Czerwone Wierchy ridge and the whole of the Western Tatras, and the way down is a wide, gentle slope without the crowds of Zakopane. Witów-Ski is a family ski resort on the eastern slopes of the Wierchy Orawicko-Witowskie hills, about 14 km from Zakopane, in the municipality of Kościelisko. It is aimed at beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
Lifts and slopes
- Chairlift – a four-seater Doppelmayr chairlift 1,000 m long, with a conveyor belt to make boarding easier. It climbs 150 m in about 6 minutes and carries up to 2,200 people per hour. It has been running since 2007.
- Platter lift on the nursery slope: 110 m long with a 15 m vertical drop, intended for children and beginners.
- Sunkid conveyor belt, a new addition, 70 m long with a capacity of 1,250 people per hour, for first solo runs.
The operator prepares two runs: a wide slope along the chairlift and a shorter training area. The easy runs total about 1,120 m and have snowmaking, grooming and floodlighting. A snowpark was also set up for the 2008/2009 season.
For families
Witów-Ski runs a licensed SITN-PZN ski and snowboard school with lessons for groups and individuals at every level. The SunSki rental shop at the slope offers skis and boards for adults and children. In the Witowianka building, children can let off steam in the Witolandia play room, and there are family apartments for longer stays.
Where to eat
- Karczma przy stoku – a self-service restaurant right by the bottom station, serving Polish and Podhale highland food.
- Witowianka restaurant – everyday regional cooking, opened in 2011.
- Toprówka viewpoint bar – at the top station, with a terrace and deckchairs and a panorama of the Western Tatras, Giewont and Czerwone Wierchy.
Tripto tip
- Getting there: the resort is in Witów on the road from Zakopane via Kościelisko towards Chochołów. There is a car park by the slope.
- Prices and season: the operator publishes current ski pass prices on its website before each season. Check the resort's webcams before you set off.
- When to go: the best views from Toprówka come on sunny, frosty days with clear air.
