Villages of the World in Kraków

An afternoon trip around the world: it is possible in Kraków, at 39 Tyniecka Street. Villages of the World is a Global Education Park where buildings characteristic of all continents stand around a large-format world map — according to the organisers it is the only place in Poland and Europe where diverse cultures lie side by side, within arm's reach.

Travelling without a passport

Visitors will find a traditional African village, a Papuan house on stilts, an Andean hut, an authentic Mongolian yurt, a Native American tipi, a South American slum dwelling and a non-melting igloo. The cottages hold original costumes, instruments and everyday objects brought from different parts of the world. The whole exhibition is meant to show cultural diversity while drawing attention to the poverty in which many inhabitants of the globe live today — global education is the main purpose of a visit here.

Attractions for families

The exhibition is complemented by interactive attractions that impress children the most: a spitting llama, a yak that can be milked, a camel ready for saddling, large-format games and puzzles, and a tro tro, a mode of transport popular in Africa. The park operates at Tyniecka 39 in Kraków: from Monday to Friday it is open 9:00-16:00, and on weekends 12:00-19:00. The ride from the centre of Kraków takes a dozen or so minutes, and the visit can be combined with a walk along the Vistula or a trip to Wawel, less than two kilometres away.
