Avenue of Stars in Kraków

Céline Dion, the Scorpions, Krzysztof Krawczyk and the TV detective Lieutenant Borewicz all share the same stretch of riverside path below Wawel Hill. Kraków's Avenue of Stars (Aleja Gwiazd) is a row of brass stars set into the paving of the Czerwieński Boulevard, a short walk from the Wawel Dragon statue. Many people walk across them without noticing that they are stepping over a slice of Polish and international music history.

How it began

The avenue was launched in 2008 as a joint project of the radio station RMF FM and the City of Kraków. The first star was unveiled by Céline Dion on 28 June 2008. Later honourees include Polish favourites Budka Suflera, Krzysztof Krawczyk, Wilki and Maanam, with posthumous stars for Marek Grechuta and Michael Jackson. Some stars came in person: the Scorpions in 2017 and Bryan Adams, who visited the boulevard on 31 July 2025 before his concert at Kraków's Tauron Arena.

The second layer is film. Guests of the Off Camera independent film festival leave stars and handprints here – in 2023 it was the Oscar-winning composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek. In 2021 the widow of Bronisław Cieślak unveiled a star for the actor who played Lieutenant Borewicz in the cult Polish crime series "07 zgłoś się".

What to look for

• The first star – Céline Dion's, where it all started.
• Handprints of Off Camera guests next to the stars – you can compare them with your own hand.
• Polish names – Grechuta, Krawczyk, Maanam, the film director Andrzej Wajda – alongside global stars.
• The backdrop – Wawel Castle above you and the Vistula on the other side, good for photos.

Tripto tip

The avenue is open around the clock and free of charge; looking at the stars takes 10–15 minutes. It works best as part of a walk: Wawel – Wawel Dragon – the statue of Dżok the dog on the same boulevard – Kazimierz. New names are added regularly, so no online list is ever complete. Don't confuse it with the Avenue of Tennis Stars by the Nadwiślan courts, which is a separate attraction.
