Domański Villa in Nawojowa Góra

In Nawojowa Góra near Krzeszowice, by national road 79, stands a manor complex known by its old name "Prochownia": a brick manor house, a gardener's cottage, a stable with a carriage house, and a 19th-century landscape park surrounding them. It is one of the more interesting residences in the Kraków approaches of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, though today it can only be viewed from behind the fence.

From Prochownia to the Domański villa

The first manor house was built here at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. In the 1920s the building was destroyed by fire, and in 1925 a thorough rebuilding was commissioned by Karol Domański — a mining engineer who worked on the construction of the technical gas factory in Trzebinia; the residence now bears his name. The redesign was prepared by Leon Wilmann.

Architecture and surroundings

The manor has an imposing front elevation and striking Spanish stairs. The complex remains inhabited and fenced, so access is limited — it is still worth a look through the fence, especially on the way to the nearby Tenczyn Castle (6.5 km) or the Kraków Valleys. Nawojowa Góra lies in the Krzeszowice commune, between the Tenczynek Ridge and the Krzeszowice Trench, with the Krzeszówka river marking its northern boundary.
