Lublin
The Trinitarian Tower in Lublin is the Neo-Gothic bell tower of the city's cathedral and the highest viewpoint in the Old Town: from its terrace, about 40 m (130 ft) up, you can see Lublin in all four directions, from the castle to the main street. Inside is the Museum of the Archdiocese of Lublin, with religious sculpture and a remarkable wooden frame. It's one of the best things to do in Lublin for views – as long as you visit during the open season.
Lublin (say "LOO-bleen") is the largest city in eastern Poland, about 170 km (105 miles) southeast of Warsaw, roughly two hours by direct train. The tower stands at Królewska 10, between the Kraków Gate and Cathedral Square, a few minutes' walk from the Market Square.
For years people believed the tower had been a gate in the city walls. The museum now explains that its story begins with the Jesuits, who arrived in the late 16th century, took down part of the walls and built a church (today's cathedral), a school and a monastery. Here stood the monastery gate, which was raised in the 17th century to hold a bell called "Jan" donated by the townspeople. After the Jesuit order was dissolved, the Trinitarian friars briefly moved in – legend says they lived in the tower itself, hence the name. Around 1819, when it became the bell tower of the new cathedral, it was raised to its present height in the Neo-Gothic style, probably to a design by Antonio Corazzi. Damaged in World War II, it was rebuilt by 1952.
The tower is seasonal. In October (as in May and June) it's open:
Winter 2026/27: after the 2025 season, the tower closed to individual visitors until May, accepting only pre-booked groups of more than 20 on weekdays. No announcement for winter 2026/27 had been made by early October, so check the museum's website before a visit from November onward.
Tickets cost 20 PLN (reduced 15 PLN; children under 3 free). A combined ticket with the cathedral's acoustic sacristy, treasury and crypts costs 26 PLN (18 PLN). Access to the terrace depends on the weather.
Yes – the panorama is the best in the Old Town. Allow 45–60 minutes, or about two hours with the cathedral. You'll climb stairs, including a spiral staircase, so the tower isn't wheelchair accessible. Nearby are Lublin Cathedral with its famous "whispering" acoustic sacristy, the Kraków Gate and the Lublin Underground Route.
