Technical monuments
On an island in the middle of the Zielona Reservoir in Kalety stands a wooden windmill — a former mill, today one of the most recognisable structures of the Tarnowskie Góry area. Water on all sides and trees around the building make it look like an illustration from a fairy tale, although its history is quite practical.
Until recently a small footbridge led to the windmill and the site was open to tourists — you could even spend a night inside. Today the footbridge is gone, the island can be reached only by kayak, and the building itself remains closed. The monument has, however, been nicely renovated, and preparations for its revitalisation are under way: plans call for reopening the interior and a rope ferry that would replace the footbridge as the link to the shore.
The windmill stands on Stawowa Street in Kalety, a town in the Tarnowskie Góry county. The best view is from the water side — so walk around the reservoir or look at the island from the bank. The structure can be admired at any time of year; it becomes most striking when its reflection appears in the water.
