Dancing Fountain in Wągrowiec

On the revitalised market square of Wągrowiec, a county town in northern Greater Poland, operates a multimedia fountain with shows run daily, almost all year round. It is the only such fountain in the region and the only one in Poland that also plays in winter — then it is covered by a transparent dome and the shows move under cover. The site is available around the clock and the performances take place at fixed times, so they are easy to plan.

Shows at fixed hours

Every day at 12.10 the water dances to the rhythm of music, and at 21.30 the show is enriched with light effects, turning the streams into colourful curtains above the surface. The repertoire consists of 10 pieces, randomly changed between shows, so two visits on consecutive days rarely look identical. The morning spectacle is best enjoyed from one of the square's benches, the evening one — away from the street lamps, so that the fountain's lights win against the surroundings.

Winter under the dome

When the nights turn frosty, a transparent dome is spread over the basin, illuminated in the evenings with the colours of the rainbow. Together with the Christmas decorations and the illuminated town houses it creates a scenery that draws visitors to the square also in December. This way the fountain does not fall asleep for the season like most water installations.

In practice

The market square lies in the centre of Wągrowiec, about 50 minutes by car from Poznań, with parking spaces available in the streets around the centre. The shows are watched free of charge from the open square — there are no tickets or stands. After the spectacle it is worth strolling among the town houses surrounding the fountain and checking the cafés under the arcades.
