Miniature Open-Air Museum of the Piast Trail in Pobiedziska

Halfway between Poznań and Gniezno, alongside national road no. 5, stands the oldest miniature park in Poland. The Miniature Open-Air Museum of the Piast Trail was opened in May 1998, in the year of the 950th anniversary of Pobiedziska; the project was initiated by the town's former mayor Krzysztof Wojdanowicz, and the first models were built as early as 1994.

Dozens of buildings at 1:20 scale

Visitors will find about 35 buildings from the Piast Trail and the whole of Greater Poland, made at 1:20 scale from durable materials, with some fragments using the same raw materials as the originals. Among them are the Old Market Square in Poznań, Gniezno Cathedral, the castle in Kórnik, the palaces in Rogalin and Antonin and a reconstruction of the settlement at Biskupin. In summer a miniature of the Centre for Contemporary Art by Poznań's Old Market is also made available.

Next door to the stronghold

Just behind the park rises the Pobiedziska Stronghold, a reconstruction of an early-Piast wooden garrison with a display of siege engines, together with which the museum forms a single educational complex. The aim of the foundation was to illustrate the spatial structure of the Piast Trail and the process by which Polish statehood and settlement took shape.

In practice

The park is open every day from 9:00 to 16:00, and access is made easy by its location on the main Poznań–Gniezno route. The visit combines well with the Pobiedziska Stronghold and, 10 kilometres away, the Museum of the First Piasts on Lednica and Ostrów Lednicki.
