Combat Bunker Wesoła

On the edge of Dobieszowice, just beyond the bed of the Brynica, you can spot a low concrete block crowned with an armoured dome that has been blending into the local fields for decades. This is heavy combat bunker No. 52 „Wesoła”, a link in the fortified area of Śląsk — a line of fortifications raised in 1937–1938 to protect Upper Silesia against a German attack.

Why it stands exactly here

The bunker has a single level, yet its role was crucial: it was tasked with defending the dam of the Kozłowa Góra reservoir. The barrier was a strategic target, because the reservoir supplied water to the industrial district of Upper Silesia. It is no coincidence that the fortifications also ran through this area — the Brynica, a border river dividing the Second Polish Republic from Germany before the war, flows nearby. This small object was thus part of a system meant to stop an assault on interwar Poland's most important industrial region.

What you will see

After the renovation carried out in recent years, the bunker was opened to visitors. The interiors are presented by a community of fortification enthusiasts around the profort.org.pl service — visits run in the season from May to October, on Saturdays between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The grounds remain accessible around the clock all year, and a green cycling route from the Dioblina forest leads to the bunker. Parking on site is free. It is a good, short stop to add to a tour of Piekary Śląskie, only a few kilometres away.
