Town Hall in Krotoszyn

Above the market square in Krotoszyn rises a slender, octagonal tower in the Baroque style — the most recognisable element of the local town hall. The building itself has two boundary dates: the masonry structure was erected around 1689, and in 1898–1899 it was rebuilt in the Neo-Renaissance spirit that defines its present appearance.

A Baroque tower and a Neo-Renaissance body

Such a combination is an example of overlapping eras: the older masonry core from the late seventeenth century received a new Neo-Renaissance costume at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, while the tower retained its Baroque silhouette. The slender octagonal tower is visible from afar and serves as a landmark in the panorama of the town.

What happens inside

The town hall remains a living centre of municipal administration. It houses the Civil Registry Office and one of the departments of the municipal office, so this is where weddings take place, often photographed against the backdrop of the square architecture. There is also the Ratuszowa restaurant, which lets you visit the building outside official business — for coffee or lunch within historic walls.
