Promenade and Pier in Płock

Below Płock’s old town, on the Stanisław Górnicki Embankment, runs a riverside boulevard with one of the more interesting solutions on Polish rivers: a pier more than 350 metres long that does not jut perpendicularly into the Vistula but follows the bank. The result is a walk right at the water’s edge, with the cathedral hill as the backdrop.

A boulevard for everyone

The promenade leads along the escarpment on which the old town stands. It is flat and smooth, so prams and wheelchairs cope without any trouble. Along the way you will find a children’s playground and benches sheltered by roofs resembling canvas masts, and a café operates at the end of the pier. The view across the river and towards the hill with the cathedral accompanies practically the whole walk.

The amphitheatre and summer by the river

Between the promenade and the old town stands a modern amphitheatre with a fan-shaped roof, one of the most recognisable structures of contemporary Płock. This is where, among other events, the Płock Cabaret Night takes place, usually in the first week of May, drawing performers from all over Poland. In summer the river adds beaches between the pier and the Sobótka reservoir, so the boulevard combines strolling with swimming.

In practice

Access to the promenade and the pier is free, around the clock and all year round. From the boulevard, the cathedral hill with the cathedral and the castle is only 0.2 km away, and the Masovian Museum 0.5 km, so plan a full day in this part of the city.
