About this place
The Slavic Settlement in Stobierna near Dębica is a timber stronghold on a hilltop, with a palisade, three thatched huts and a watchtower. The reconstruction refers to the 8th–9th centuries, when the Wisłoka valley lay within the state of the Vistulans. In season you can shoot a bow here and strike your own copper coin.
Historical background: the Vistulans on the Wisłoka
Probably in 882, Svatopluk the Great of Moravia invaded the Vistulan state and defeated the local prince. According to the sources, this led to a superficial Christianisation of what are now Lesser Poland and Subcarpathia, in the Slavonic rite of St Methodius. Christianity did not take root, however: after the fall of the Moravian state at the beginning of the 10th century the Vistulans threw off its rule, and at the end of the 10th century their lands came under the Piast dynasty. That era left many strongholds and cult sites on both banks of the Wisłoka, among them at Trzcinica, Golesz and Przeczyca.
What to see
- The palisade and watchtower – a walk along the ramparts leads to the tower with a view over the surroundings.
- Three thatched huts, each with a different set of tools and everyday objects: weaving, blacksmith's and pottery workshops, clay vessels, jewellery, shields, chain mail and arrows.
- Archery and the mint – 5 arrows are included in the ticket, and for an extra fee you can strike your own coin.
- A pen with two goats next to one of the huts, and a stall with handmade toys and souvenirs.

- Season (as of October 2026): May to September on Sundays and public holidays, 13:00–18:00; closed in bad weather. From 1 October to 30 April weekday visits by prior arrangement: tel. +48 724 346 922, turystyka.stobierna@ckib.pl.
- Tickets: PLN 10 standard, PLN 8 reduced (under 14), PLN 30 family (parents + 3 children). Striking a coin costs PLN 9, an extra 5 arrows PLN 5.
- School groups can book weekday workshops, e.g. the "Living History Lesson" (PLN 20 per child, 45–60 minutes), pottery, Slavic cooking or calligraphy.
- Getting there: from the E40, turn south at Zawada near Dębica towards Stobierna (about 40 km from Rzeszów). Mind the name – there is another Stobierna near Rzeszów. The site is run by the Culture and Library Centre of Dębica Municipality.
- With children, allow 1–2 hours; themed events are often held here on Sundays.
