Toy Museum in Kudowa-Zdrój

Behind the fence at 46b Zdrojowa Street, in a small house with a mansard roof, live more than 5,500 toys – from figurines two thousand years old to video game consoles. The Toy Museum in Kudowa-Zdrój opened in December 2002 as the first private museum of its kind in Poland, and it is still run by the family that started with a box of their grandparents' keepsakes. Children come for the trains and teddy bears; adults come to find the toys of their own childhood.

History: a collection that outgrew the house

The museum was founded by Maria and Mirosław Ozierański. At first the toys were family heirlooms handed down from generation to generation; then friends started bringing more and the family collected them on their travels – often broken and unwanted. The first exhibition filled two rooms; once the museum opened, people began donating old toys so readily that after several moves the collection settled at 46b Zdrojowa Street. A branch opened in Krynica-Zdrój in July 2010. The collection has also been shown elsewhere, including the Kłodzko Land Museum, Książ Castle and the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes in Szczecin, and in 2012 it was the only museum from Poland invited to the World Congress of Toy Museums in Istanbul.

What to see

The exhibition covers more than 400 m² in 12 rooms on the ground and first floors. The toys come from five continents and span antiquity to the 1990s, though most date from the 19th and 20th centuries. Most are arranged in little scenes behind glass.

• Dolls with accessories, dolls' houses and teddy bears, rocking horses and toy theatres.
• Model trains, boats and steam toys – press a button and a 90-year-old steam engine starts up, while music boxes and mechanical musical toys play.
• Nativity scenes, religious and folk toys, animal figures and optical toys.
• Toy soldiers, die-cast cars, board games and early video game consoles.
• Toys from archaeological excavations, with some pieces up to 2,000 years old.

Did you know?

Toys given by donors are marked with a small heart – each one carries the story of a particular child. The museum still accepts old toys, even damaged ones, and donors can visit free of charge afterwards. One room has a 70-year-old school desk where you can take a photo in an old-style school uniform. In the workshop called the Old Carpentry Shop you can assemble a wooden "Kudowa Woodpecker", inspired by a toy made by a local factory almost a hundred years ago.

The museum is open daily: May–August 9:00–18:00, September 10:00–18:00, October–April 10:00–17:00; it is closed on Mondays in March and November, as well as on Easter Sunday, 1 November and 24 December. A standard ticket costs PLN 34, a reduced ticket PLN 29, and children up to their 4th birthday enter free (as of October 2026). There are no fixed entry slots – you start as soon as you buy a ticket and can stay as long as you like; 1–1.5 hours is usually enough. The museum is a good rainy-day option in the Table Mountains area; in Kudowa you can combine it with, for example, the Skull Chapel in Czermna.
