Darłówko Lighthouse

At the mouth of the Wieprza river, at the base of the eastern breakwater in Darłówko, stands the lowest lighthouse on the Polish coast — only 22 metres tall. Low does not mean weak: its light reaches nearly 30 km, and the lighthouse is also the easternmost on the entire Polish coast.

From shore lights to the white dome

The history of navigation at the Wieprza mouth begins with an order of the town authorities from 1715, requiring lights on both sides of the river mouth. The present shape started with a single-storey red-brick pilots' station built in 1885 together with an adjoining tower. In 1927 the tower was raised by one storey and crowned with a white steel dome — the light source was moved there.

The view from the top

The lighthouse is open to visitors: after climbing the stairs, a panorama of Darłówko, the surrounding towns and the open sea unfolds. It is a good spot for watching the Wieprza mouth and the traffic on the breakwaters.

In practice

The lighthouse stands at Wschodnia Street in Darłówko, on the eastern side of the river mouth. You enter by climbing the stairs to the top; check the current opening hours on site, as the summer season is the busiest. Darłówko links Darłowo with the sea, so in one trip you can see the port, the beach and a brick relic of old navigation.
