Holy Trinity Church in Kochłowice, Ruda Śląska

On ks. Ludwika Tunkla street in Kochłowice, a district of Ruda Śląska, rises the church of the Holy Trinity, a building that combines Romanesque Revival with Gothic Revival. Work began in 1900, and the church was consecrated as early as 1902. The earlier church under the same dedication — today's sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes — had proved too small for the growing parish.

Two towers and a rose window

The church was built on a Latin cross plan, of brick faced outside with stone tiles. The three-axis facade with two tall towers is decorated with three Romanesque Revival portals and a rose window. The three-naved interior with a transept and a presbytery closed by a semicircular apse is covered by cross-ribbed vaults.

Stained glass from Munich, carving from Silesia

The stained glass was made in Munich, the figures of the evangelists in Wrocław, and the organ in Świdnica. The altar paintings of the Holy Trinity and the Sacred Heart, as well as the Stations of the Cross, were painted by Julian Wałdawski of Wrocław, while the altar, pulpit, baptismal font and rails were made by the Rosenthal company of Bytom. Among the founders were also the Lutheran Donnersmarck family of Świerklaniec.

The miner Kołodziej's picture

A special place is held by the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa bought by the miner Franciszek Kołodziej: the work of Franciszek Jędrzejczyk was brought to Kochłowice on 22 August 1901 in a solemn procession and blessed by the Pauline Father Prior. Allow 20–30 minutes for a visit; nearby awaits the earlier church, today a sanctuary.
