Koryznówka Manor in Nowy Wiśnicz

Koryznówka Manor in Nowy Wiśnicz is a wooden Serafiński family house visited by Jan Matejko. Built in the mid-19th century, it stands between the Kmitas and Lubomirskis Castle and the former monastery, making it an important heritage site in the Nowy Wiśnicz area. Its rooms preserve memorabilia of the painter and the atmosphere of a home he visited while staying with Joanna and Leonard Serafiński.

Jan Matejko’s connection

Matejko came to Wiśnicz in the 1860s and 1870s. At Koryznówka he met friends, drew the town’s wooden buildings and views of the castle, and spent time in the Serafiński home. This personal, domestic character distinguishes the manor from large biographical museums: visitors encounter not only objects, but also an authentic setting connected with the artist’s everyday life.

Museum and wooden architecture

Koryznówka is a branch of the Tarnów Land Museum and belongs to the Wooden Architecture Trail of Małopolska. When open, it combines naturally with Nowy Wiśnicz Castle, the market square and a walk through the historic town. The manor itself is a valuable example of 19th-century wooden architecture, and its location makes it easy to plan several nearby sights in one day.

Check before travelling

The current notice from the Tarnów Land Museum says that the Koryznówka branch is closed to visitors until further notice because of organisational changes. Do not travel solely to enter the manor — check the museum’s announcement and confirm reopening by phone. The castle and other Nowy Wiśnicz attractions follow their own hours and visitor rules.
