Święty Krzyż Monastery

Święty Krzyż Monastery stands on Łysa Góra, at 595 m above sea level, in the heart of Świętokrzyski National Park. The former Benedictine abbey is now home to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Sanctuary of the Relics of the True Cross. The relics gave their name to the mountains and the region. A visit combines historic architecture, pilgrimage history and views of the famous gołoborze stone fields.

Basilica and relics

The centre of the complex is the Basilica of the Holy Trinity with the Chapel of the Relics of the True Cross. The present Baroque-Classicist church was built at the end of the 18th century on the site of older churches. Visitors can also see the cloisters, sacristy, Oleśnicki Chapel and the historical-mission museum. Remember that this is an active place of worship, not only a monument.

Crypts and Łysa Góra

The underground section contains Benedictine crypts and the crypt of Prince Jeremi Wiśniowiecki. A trail from Huta Szklana reaches the summit across the gołoborze, a field of stone rubble characteristic of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains; a road ends close to the monastery. View the gołoborze from the designated platform or trail and follow park rules.

Practical information

The monastery’s official site lists visiting hours from 9:00 to 17:00 daily, with longer summer hours; check current times, tickets and access to individual areas before travelling. A monastery guide can be booked in advance. Wear outdoor shoes for the gołoborze trail and allow for changing weather. Stay on marked paths and keep quiet during services.
