Radom Cathedral

The Cathedral Basilica of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Radom is a Neo-Gothic church designed by Józef Pius Dziekoński. It was built between 1899 and 1911. With its slender form, two towers about 72 metres high and richly decorated interior, the cathedral is one of the most recognisable landmarks in central Radom.

Cathedral architecture

The church is a three-aisled basilica with a transept. Its design refers to French Gothic architecture: the façade has a rose window and three portals, while the walls are supported by buttresses and flying arches. The nave rises to about 21 metres, giving the interior a bright and soaring character.

Interior details

The high altar contains a statue of the Virgin and Child carved from white Carrara marble. Look for the polychrome sculptures, pinnacles, gilding and stained-glass windows showing scenes from the life of Mary, saints and Christ in Gethsemane. The cathedral also has a 23-stop organ installed in 1913.

Visiting Radom Cathedral

The cathedral is an active place of worship at 13 Sienkiewicza Street. View the façade from the street and enter only when the liturgical schedule allows. Check current service times and access arrangements before visiting; during services, religious use takes priority.
