Radom Village Museum

The Radom Village Museum (Muzeum Wsi Radomskiej) is an open-air museum on the southwestern edge of Radom, a city about 100 km south of Warsaw. Spread across 32 hectares of the rolling Mleczna river valley, it brings together more than 60 historic buildings, mostly wooden — farmhouses, manor houses, windmills and an 18th-century church — showing rural life where the regions of Masovia and Lesser Poland meet. It is a relaxed, family-friendly day out, with an unexpected aviation twist.

Background

The museum was founded in 1977. Since then, buildings from across the Radom region have been dismantled, moved and rebuilt here as farmsteads, manors and a group of mills, set in a landscape of ponds and wetlands.

What to see

• St. Dorothy's Church from Wolanów (1749), the museum's most valuable building, with illusionistic painted decoration imitating the interior of a grand baroque masonry church.
• Windmills of several types, brought from villages around Radom.
• Farmsteads showing village life from the 19th century to the 1960s, with furnished interiors.
• Manor houses from Pieczyska and Brzeziec. The Pieczyska manor was the birthplace of Czesław Tański, a pioneer of Polish aviation, and a replica of his glider hangs in a barn. Aircraft designer Tadeusz Sołtyk hid in the other manor during World War II, and his TS-11 Iskra jet trainer is displayed on site.
• A nature trail on boardwalks over the wetlands and an observation tower above one of the ponds.

Opening hours and tickets (as of October 2026)

Until October 31: Monday–Friday 9 am–5 pm, Saturday–Sunday 10 am–6 pm. Winter hours, November 1, 2026 to March 28, 2027: Monday–Friday 9 am–3:30 pm, Saturday–Sunday 10 am–3 pm. Ticket sales end one hour before closing. Closed on several holidays, including November 1 and 11, December 24, 25 and 31, and January 1 and 6.

Tickets: 20 PLN standard, 12 PLN reduced (Polish złoty). From November to March a cheaper walking ticket without building interiors costs 10/6 PLN. Children under 7 enter free, and visitors arriving with a Koleje Mazowieckie (regional train) ticket get 50% off. English-language guided tours cost 200 PLN per group and must be booked in advance.

Tips for visiting

Allow 2–3 hours; the grounds are large and hilly, so wear comfortable shoes. Dogs on a leash are welcome.

When to go

Spring to fall is best, when the interiors are open and the meadows are green; in winter the cheaper walking ticket lets you explore the grounds without entering buildings. Kids tend to love the windmills, the jet and the glider, while adults should not miss the painted interior of the Wolanów church. The museum also holds outdoor events — such as Candlemas, Palm Sunday and Museum Night, when a symbolic 1 PLN ticket applies — so check its calendar.

How to get there

The entrance and ticket office are at Szydłowiecka 30; city bus 18 stops nearby. There is no car parking inside the museum grounds. From Warsaw, regional Koleje Mazowieckie trains run to Radom — a good option, given the ticket discount.
