Radom Village Museum

On the south-western outskirts of Radom, in the rolling valley of the Mleczna river, stretches an open-air museum covering 32 hectares. Founded in 1977, the Radom Village Museum has gathered more than 60 structures of old architecture, mostly wooden, presenting the culture of the Radom region on the borderland of Mazovia and Lesser Poland.

A church, windmills and manors

The most precious monument is the wooden church of St. Dorothy from Wolanów of 1749, with a trompe-l’oeil polychromy imitating the rich interior of a brick Baroque temple. The collection is complemented by windmills and a beekeeping and wild-bee-keeping skansen. Around a pond are arranged farmsteads — from a single-room cottage from Kłonówek of 1825 to a farmstead from Alojzów of the 1960s — and manor houses, including the one from Pieczyska, belonging to the Tański family.

A hang-glider and an Iskra

In a barn by the manor awaits a replica of the hang-glider of Czesław Tański, called the father of Polish aviation: his flight of 20 metres was the first Polish aviation record. In the museum’s other manor the designer Tadeusz Sołtyk hid during the war — hence the TS-11 Iskra jet of his design on display. The museum also collects vehicles, farm machinery, hives, textiles and folk art.

Nature and practice

A nature trail runs across the grounds on footbridges over wetlands, a viewing tower stands by one of the ponds, and a playground and restaurant await by the entrance.
