Siewierz Maidens Fountain

The Siewierz Maidens Fountain stands on the Market Square in Siewierz, close to the ruins of the Kraków Bishops’ Castle. This free outdoor attraction works well as a short stop, photo spot or break during a trip through the Kraków–Częstochowa Jura.

The story behind the fountain

The fountain was created in 2009, during the reconstruction and revitalisation of Siewierz Market Square. Its centrepiece is a group of bronze figures showing dancing women in folk costumes. The sculpture refers to the Polish song “Od Siewierza jechał wóz, malowane panny wiózł”, associated with the Śląsk Song and Dance Ensemble. It connects the square with the town’s musical and folk traditions.

What to see

The figures are about 180 cm tall and weigh around 400 kg in total. The fountain was designed by Kraków sculptors Agnieszka and Marek Maślak. Nearby, a commemorative bench shows Stanisław Hadyna and Zdzisław Pyzik, the song’s authors; it was unveiled in 2019. Take a photograph and continue around the Market Square rather than planning a separate long visit.

Practical information

The fountain is in a public urban space, so viewing it is free and does not require a reservation or ticket. Combine it with Siewierz Castle, the Chamber of Old Traditions and Culture, and a walk through the centre. Weather, seasonal closures or maintenance may limit the water feature or lighting.
