Żytno Manor House

In the 19th century Henryk Sienkiewicz and Jacek Malczewski are said to have visited, after the war village children went to school here, and then for years the building fell into ruin. Żytno Manor House – a classicist residence from 1819 with a four-column Doric portico – has been thoroughly rebuilt and now welcomes guests again, this time as a boutique hotel with a restaurant and a park of almost 4 hectares. It stands in Żytno, Radomsko County, among forests near the Pilica valley.

History: from the Siemieński salon to a hotel

The manor belonged to the Siemieński family, who also founded the village's neo-Gothic church. The current owners link the house with Jan Nepomucen Siemieński and say that in the 19th and early 20th centuries it hosted a well-known social salon. Among the guests they name the novelist Henryk Sienkiewicz, the painter Jacek Malczewski, Blessed Wanda Malczewska and the family of General Anders – this comes from the owners and is not confirmed in other available sources.

After the Second World War the manor housed a primary school, and later the building gradually decayed. It was entered in the heritage register on 27 December 1967, and the park followed on 19 July 1995. Its reconstruction and conversion for tourism and culture was co-funded, among others, by the Łódź Region Operational Programme for 2014–2020; in 2020 the work was in its final stage.

What you will see

• The porticoed facade – four Doric columns and a triangular pediment; the sculpted decoration of the portico celebrates country life. The best view is from the driveway.
• The historic park of almost 4 ha, with paths and mature trees.
• Restored interiors – the Blue Room, the Sideboard Room and the French Room, the small library and the café, where the restaurant now operates.
• The garden and herb patch beside the manor, which supply the kitchen.

This is not a museum: there is no exhibition and no guided tour. You experience the manor as a restaurant or hotel guest.

Tripto tip

The restaurant, bar and café are open daily 12:00–21:00 (as of October 2026) – the easiest way to see the manor inside without staying overnight. The hotel has 20 rooms, and guests can borrow bikes and Nordic walking poles; there is a riding stable opposite the manor. The address is ul. Konopnickiej 92, about 45 km from Częstochowa and 35 km from the A1 motorway. A car is the most practical option, as public transport in this part of the county is limited. If you only want a walk in the park, ask at reception beforehand whether that is possible.
