Lovers' Rock (Skała Miłości) in Mstów

Above the Warta riverbed in Mstów, beneath Góra Szwajcera, a lonely limestone tor rises, visible from afar. Skała Miłości — Lovers' Rock, as the locals named it — is considered the northernmost outcrop of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and one of the symbols of this village near Częstochowa.

The legend of the cursed lovers

The name of the rock is tied to a local legend. A girl sent by her mother for healing water from a spring met her beloved on the way and — absorbed in conversation — forgot her task. Dying of grief, the mother cursed them both and turned the lovers into stone. The story still draws couples here and is the most fascinating layer of the place.

What you will see on site

Stairs lead to the rock itself — from the top there is a view over the Warta and the surroundings. Around it you will find stone picnic shelters, fire places, a children's playground, walking avenues and viewing terraces; nearby there is a beach at the Tasarki reservoir. The Warta flows beneath the rock — in summer kayaking trips are organised through the Mirow Gorge of the Warta, starting from Mirow near Częstochowa. The tor lies within the Geopark of the Northern Jura.

Practical information

Admission is free, and the site is available all year round, around the clock. A free car park is located near the municipal office. It is worth combining your visit with the neighbouring attractions: the monastery in Mstów, Olsztyn Castle (9 km) or Jasna Góra in Częstochowa (13.7 km).
