Pump House in Szczawnica

Villa “Nad Zdrojami”, also called Dom nad Zdrojami, stands by Dietl Square in the spa district of Szczawnica. The wooden building dates from 1863 and was designed as a spa house with a pump room. Today the ground floor serves six types of Szczawnica mineral water, while the upper floor hosts seasonal exhibitions. It is a key historic building on Dietl Square.

History of the villa

The villa was commissioned by Józef Szalay, who developed Szczawnica as a spa. Adam Stadnicki modernised the pump room in 1931–1934. A fire destroyed the building in 2002; the remains were dismantled in 2006, and the villa was rebuilt in its historic form in 2008. The present building is therefore a reconstruction that preserves the character of the former spa house.

Pump room and Dietl Square

The pump room serves six Szczawnica waters, including the Stefan and Józefina springs. Water is served on site, and the price depends on the spring and cup size. Seasonal exhibitions are arranged upstairs, so the programme can change during the year. Dietl Square is surrounded by historic villas, including Holenderka, Szwajcarka and Willa Pałac.

The pump room operates at 7 Dietl Square in Szczawnica. The operator currently lists opening hours of Monday–Thursday 9:00–18:00 and Friday–Sunday 9:00–20:00. Check water prices on site or on the pump room website. Dietl Square starts walks and trails towards Bryjarka, Górny Park and Palenica. Central car parks may be paid and busy in high season, so choose parking according to your route.
