Church in Trześcianka

Church of Saint Michael the Archangel

In the centre of Trześcianka, on a tree-lined square enclosed by a wall, stands the wooden Orthodox Church of Saint Michael the Archangel. The present church was built in 1864–1867 after an earlier church was destroyed. It is an important landmark of the Land of Open Shutters. The façades were repainted in 2024.

Architecture and history

The church was built on a cross-shaped plan using log construction. Its decorative cladding, façade bell tower and pseudo-dome above the crossing create a distinctive silhouette. The interior consists of a porch, tall nave and iconostasis-separated sanctuary; the icon cases and elements of the eclectic furnishings also survive. The parish was founded in 1673 by Katarzyna Branicka, and the present building was consecrated in 1867.

Trześcianka and the Land of Open Shutters

The church is a natural starting point for a walk through Trześcianka. Look for wooden houses with decorated shutters and carved details. Combine it with Puchły and Soce for a route through the three villages of the Land of Open Shutters.

Visiting and access

Address: Trześcianka 120, 17-210 Narew. This is an active church with no fixed tourist visiting hours. The monument can be viewed from outside; interior access requires arrangements with its owner. The parish lists tel. +48 85 681 55 21. A paved car park is available by the church. Confirm interior access and photography rules before travelling. Keep quiet and dress respectfully during services.
