Bielany-Tyniec Landscape Park (Bielańsko-Tyniecki Park Krajobrazowy, roughly "byeh-LAHN-skoh ti-NYETS-kee PAHRK krah-yo-brah-ZOH-vee") is a green belt along the Vistula in western Kraków, combining the Benedictine abbey in Tyniec, the Camaldolese monastery at Bielany, limestone rocks and the woods of Las Wolski. Meadows run along the river with walking and cycling paths, and the city center is not far away. It is one of the best things to do in Kraków when you want a quiet day outside the crowded center, mixing history with forest and river views.
The park lies in the west and southwest of Kraków, a UNESCO-listed city, and in the neighboring municipalities of Czernichów and Liszki, along the Vistula valley as far as Ściejowice. Kraków John Paul II International Airport is the nearest gateway. City transport serves Tyniec, and in season a river tram on the Vistula has a stop close to the abbey. Parking near the abbey and the main forest entrances may be full on weekends. Check current timetables before you go.
The park was established on December 2, 1981 by a resolution of the Kraków City National Council. It covers 63.59 square kilometers (about 25 square miles), with a 97.66 km² buffer zone, and is run by the Lesser Poland Landscape Parks Complex. It takes its name from two monasteries: the Camaldolese hermitage at Bielany and the Benedictine abbey at Tyniec. It has three large forest complexes: Las Wolski and the woods near Tyniec and Czernichów.
The park has four nature reserves: Bielańskie Skałki, Panieńskie Skały, Skałki Przegorzalskie and Skołczanka. It also has three Natura 2000 sites, five ecological sites and 63 natural monuments, plus caves, churches, monasteries, manor houses and historic parks.
Plan 1.5 to 2 hours for the abbey alone, or a full day for Las Wolski and the reserves. A riverside walk or bike ride is easy for families. Is it worth visiting? Yes, especially in autumn light, though forest paths can be slippery after rain. Signs are mostly in Polish.
The park is open year-round, with no gates and no entry fee. Individual sites have their own hours and prices in Polish zloty (PLN): Tyniec Abbey (see opactwotynieckie.pl), the Bielany monastery, the cave and attractions at Przegorzały. We do not list hours because they were not confirmed on official websites. Park information is available from the Lesser Poland Landscape Parks Complex (zpkwm.pl).
Nearby are the Kraków Valleys (Dolinki Krakowskie) and the center of Kraków.
