Beskid Gorlicki (Gorlice Beskids)

Gorlice Beskids — gentle mountains and a cultural borderland

The Gorlice Beskids is an informal name for the western part of the Low Beskids south of Gorlice. Rather than one landmark, it is a broad landscape of gentle ridges, forests, valleys and former Lemko villages. The region’s highest summit is Lackowa (997 m), the highest point of the entire Low Beskids.

Trails from Gorlice and nearby villages

PTTK Gorlice lists a green trail from Gorlice railway station via Łysula, Wapienne, Ferdel and Kornuty to Magura Wątkowska (25 km), a blue route through Sękowa, Magura Małastowska and Bartne (41.7 km), and a yellow route via Bartnia Góra, Bielanka, Miejska Góra and Ropa (22.2 km).

Lemko heritage and war cemeteries

Hikes can be combined with Lemko heritage: wooden Orthodox churches, roadside crosses and traces of former settlements. The churches in Owczary and Kwiatoń are part of the UNESCO entry “Wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathian Region”. The Gorlice area also has numerous First World War cemeteries connected with the 1915 Gorlice offensive, including Cemetery No. 123 at Pustki in Łużna.

Magura National Park and planning

Part of the area lies within Magura National Park. The park publishes its own access rules, notices, tickets and suggested nature trails, so check them before choosing a route. Carry a map, water and footwear suitable for mud; distances between services can be long in the Low Beskids. Gorlice, Sękowa, Uście Gorlickie and Krempna are practical bases.
