Bałtów Animal Park (Zwierzyniec Bałtowski)

Every European bison born in Bałtów gets a name starting with "Po-": Polesław, Pojata, Pompon, Poezja. It is a Polish naming tradition for the species, and the herd is the pride of the Bałtów Animal Park (Zwierzyniec Bałtowski) – a safari park that is part of the Bałtów tourist complex best known for its JuraPark dinosaur park. The upper section, more than 60 ha of meadows, copses and ravines, is seen from a yellow American school bus; the lower one on foot among aviaries and paddocks.

History: from safari to bison enclosure

The upper park has been open since 2007. From 2009 the Delta Association, which owns the complex, worked to set up a bison enclosure as part of the national conservation programme for the species. On 18 March 2011 the General Director for Environmental Protection approved keeping 7 animals, and in April the enclosure was officially accepted. In spring 2011 the first three bison arrived: Potworek from the forest park in Ustroń and Pontia and Polejka from the bison enclosure in Pszczyna. The herd grew quickly, and in 2014 permission was given to increase it to 8 animals. The enclosure covers about 7 ha.

What to see

Upper park (safari) – several dozen native and exotic species. Along the route you may see:

• European bison of the lowland (Białowieża) line,
• Bactrian camels, llamas, alpacas, ostriches and emus,
• zebu, Watusi and Highland cattle, and Tibetan yaks,
• nilgai antelopes, red and sika deer, fallow deer, mouflons and wild boar,
• Carpathian and Angora goats and several sheep breeds, including Cameroon and Racka sheep.

Lower park – a walk among birds: pheasants, peacocks, geese, mandarin ducks, crowned cranes, parrots and owls. Among the mammals, children love the ponies, donkeys, goats, meerkats and common marmosets.

Did you know?

All the Bałtów bison belong to the lowland line, descended from just 7 animals that survived in private collections after the species was wiped out in the wild during the First World War. On the bus, a guide talks about the animals' habits, and the park also offers a safari audio guide divided into sectors.

Tripto tip

In the 2026 season (25 April – 27 September) both parts were included in the all-in package with JuraPark and other attractions: PLN 155 standard, PLN 143 reduced, family tickets 2+1, 2+2 and 2+3 at PLN 430, 566 and 628. Safari times vary from day to day and prices for the next season may differ, so check the calendar on the complex's website before you go. Allow 60–90 minutes for the safari and the lower park, plus waiting time for the bus. On the safari route do not get out of the vehicle and stay on the marked road – animals may walk onto it. There is parking and food on site.
