Mountains & peaks
The Bacówka in the Szańce hamlet is part of the Regional Products Centre and Educational Farm run by the Kohut family. It is located in Koniaków in the Silesian Beskids, near Ochodzita mountain. It is a useful stop for learning about the pastoral traditions of the Three Villages, seeing a traditional wooden shepherd’s hut and buying regional cheese.
During the grazing season, visitors can follow the route from sheep’s milk to cheese: milking, working the curd over a fire and smoking. Products may include oscypek, bundz, bryndza, Wallachian cheeses and żętyca, depending on the season. The centre also offers educational activities about sheep, cheese-making and local crafts. The adjacent Sklep Góralski sells souvenirs and regional products.
The Bacówka is close to Chata na Szańcach and the Lace Museum in Koniaków, so it is worth planning a longer stop rather than only buying cheese. The surrounding hills look towards Ochodzita, Tyniok and Barania Góra. There are places for a short rest, and you can drive to the site through Koniaków from Istebna or Jaworzynka.
The centre is open daily: 9:00 am–6:00 pm from April to September and 9:00 am–5:00 pm from October to March. In winter, the hut is available for visits, while cheeses made at the farm are sold in the Sklep Góralski. Check the current seasonal offer and group arrangements before travelling.
