Trails around Mogielica

Twenty-one kilometres of forest roads at 750–1,000 m above sea level circle Mogielica, the highest peak of the Beskid Wyspowy range (1,170 m). In winter this is a groomed cross-country ski trail; in summer it complements the hiking, cycling and horse-riding routes. The loop runs through the municipalities of Kamienica, Słopnice and Dobra, with its base in the village of Zalesie.

The trails around Mogielica

• Mogielica trail – 21 km: a loop on forest roads, starting and finishing at the "Wyrębiska" car park by the green and yellow hiking trails, about 3 km from the equipment rental. Aimed at skiers who want to improve their technique.
• Family trail – 6 km: the first 6 km of the loop, mostly gentle, returning the same way.
• Polana Stumorgowa trail – 2 km: at 1,050–1,100 m on the blue hiking trail to Mogielica; the meadow is reached at the 6th kilometre of the main loop. Laid out depending on conditions.
• Small loop by the rental centre next to the LKS "Zalesianka" sports ground – for beginners.

In total about 25 km of trails are maintained here and can be used all year round.

Mogielica and Polana Stumorgowa

Mogielica was described as early as the 15th century as a mountain "visible from Kraków". Locals call its summit dome "Kopa", and an observation tower opened on the top in 2022; the viewpoints look out over the Beskid Wyspowy, Beskid Sądecki, Gorce, Pieniny and Tatra mountains. Polana Stumorgowa, also called Hala Stumorgi, takes its name from the old land measure, the morga. It once covered more than 50 ha and huge flocks of sheep grazed here; today it is slowly becoming overgrown. The summit area is covered with stunted spruce forest, the only patch of upper montane forest in the Beskid Wyspowy, and since 2011 a nature reserve here has protected the capercaillie.

The trails are reached via Zalesie in the Kamienica municipality; at the visitor centre by LKS "Zalesianka" you can rent cross-country skis with boots, mountain bikes, Nordic walking poles and equipment for people with disabilities (for a fee). In winter the track is groomed once a week when there is more than 30 cm of snow and frost, as well as after heavy snowfall and before races – check trail conditions before you go. Allow half a day for the full loop on skis or by bike; the family section takes much less. This is forest and mountain terrain, so bring water, a warm layer and a charged phone.
