Trail around Mogielica

Twenty-one kilometres of forest paths at an altitude of around 800 m above sea level — that is the loop around Mogielica, the highest peak of the Island Beskids (1170 m). In summer it is used by cyclists, hikers and nordic walking enthusiasts; in winter a snow groomer prepares cross-country trails here, so the route works all year round.

Starting at Wyrębiska

The loop begins and ends at the free forest car park Wyrębiska Zalesie; next to it operates a rental of bicycles (and cross-country skis in winter) with helmets and child seats. The first 6 kilometres are considered the gentlest and are often recommended to families; farther on the route requires perseverance on the climbs. The loop runs through the communes of Kamienica, Słopnice and Dobra.

Polana Stumorgowa and the tower

Near the loop lies the Stumorgowa Glade, considered the most beautiful glade in the Beskids, with views opening onto the whole massif. The summit itself belongs to the Crown of Polish Mountains and is crowned with a viewing tower; in good weather its terrace overlooks the Sącz Beskids, the Pieniny, the Gorce and even the Tatras. Locals call the summit dome simply the Kopa.

In practice

It is best to arrive in the morning, when the car park is empty and the light favours the views. The section by the Stumorgowa Glade can be too steep to ride — you have to push the bikes then, so allow extra time. In winter check the current condition of the cross-country trails, as their preparation depends on the weather.
