Ponds in Połomia

North of Połomia, a farming village in the commune of Tworóg, stretch two groups of ponds: the better-kept Szkarotkowe Ponds and the wilder, partly dried-up Wesoła Ponds to the west. No asphalt road leads to them — the car is left by the buildings of the village and the last stretch is covered on foot across fields and groves. Tarnowskie Góry lie about 20 kilometres away, and the palace in Brynek stands nearby.

A forest education stop

The Szkarotkowe Ponds form the 30th stop of the forest nature trail of the Brynek Forest District. By the larger reservoirs a bench, a shelter and information boards await, explaining the role ponds play in the forest: they enrich species diversity, soften climate swings, serve game as a watering hole, supply forest nurseries and act as fire reservoirs. For anglers this is one of the favourite fishing spots in the area.

Among reeds and cranes

Above the smaller wild ponds rise clumps of tall water grasses that rustle and sway in the wind. Various birds, including cranes, fly overhead, and a number of viewing hides have been set up around, which says a lot about the local game. This is a direction for a calm walk with a dog or a second breakfast by the water, far from the bustle of the conurbation.
