Zbrosławice Riding Centre

Zbrosławice in Tarnowskie Góry County is a village where horses are part of the landscape. The Zbrosławice municipality is known for its many riding centres, and the centre in Zbrosławice itself is a good base for riding lessons and horseback outings in the Drama valley. A 25 km riding trail has been marked out here, linking several villages of the municipality.

A horse-riding municipality

According to the Upper Silesian–Zagłębie Metropolis, recreational riding developed in Zbrosławice in the 1990s. Today a marked 25-kilometre riding trail runs through the municipality: it passes through Wilkowice, Miedary and Kamieniec, among others, and forms a loop back to Zbrosławice. The municipality covers 148 km² and has more than 15,000 residents; it borders Bytom, Tarnowskie Góry, Gliwice, Pyskowice and Zabrze, so the stables are easy to reach from across the conurbation.

Zbrosławice: the village of Zbrosław's descendants

The village name comes from the personal name Zbrosław and means the settlement of "Zbrosław's descendants". Zbrosławice first appears in records around 1300, in the register of the Wrocław bishopric's estates, the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis. From 1936 to 1945 the German administration renamed it Dramatal-West – "western Drama valley". In the village centre stands a palace rebuilt in 1756 by the von Stockmans family and altered many times since.

For a first lesson bring long trousers and flat-soled shoes; stables usually provide a helmet, but ask when booking. Combine the visit with the Zbrosławice palace or with Tarnowskie Góry, home to the Historic Silver Mine and the Black Trout Adit.
