Sobótka is a small town in Wrocław County at the foot of Mount Ślęża, about 35 kilometres south-west of Wrocław. Chartered in 1399, it is one of the oldest market settlements in Poland. For most visitors it is the gateway to Ślęża, a solitary 718-metre mountain surrounded by legends and regarded as a former cult site. Along the trails you will see ancient stone sculptures, including a bear and a figure with a fish, and the summit offers views over the Wrocław Plain. The Tąpadła Pass is a popular starting point. In town, visit the Ślęża Museum with its archaeological finds and the Górka Palace, and in nearby Będkowice the early medieval hillfort. One day is enough for climbing Ślęża and seeing the town. Come by train or car from Wrocław. Spring and autumn are the nicest seasons, and trails get busy on sunny weekends.
